>> live and in hd, this is abc 7 "news at noon," on your side. >> as sweeping budget cuts expected to pick in this friday. and has virginia lawmaker scrambling this noon to make preparations. one of the biggest concerns is cut spending could mean big things for air travel. john gonzalez is at reagan national airport for the latest. >> if the sequester goes into affect on friday spending cuts

would affect a number of industries including air travel, which would take a hint of about $600 million. at this hour at reagan national, virginia congressman jim moran and others have spattered with senator tim kaine and others to discuss the impact this would have on business and vacation travelers. as many as 10% of faa employees would be furloughed up to 11 days. and that includes tsa workers and air-traffic controllers. that would add about an extra hour for people waiting at security checkpoints along with thousands of missed flights. >> there is something that needs to be done very quickly. we cannot dial a manufactured crisis and to harm economically indispensable government services like those that allow

d.c. police are investigating a man's death in southwest washington as a homicide. there were called to the 1400 block of canal street last night around 6:30. they found a 22-year-old tyrone joyner who had been shot in the stomach. he later died at the hospital. police of not released a description of any suspect. offering a $25,000 reward to anyone providing information that leads to an arrest. teenager accused of shooting a classmate at perry hall high school is in court this afternoon for his sentencing. robert gladden faces many decades in prison for first- degree murder. daniel borowy was hurt in the shooting and just recently returned to school. in a little less than an hour, prince george's county investigators will officially announce an arrest in two murders in capitol heights. trayvon bennett has been arrested for shooting and

killing 18-year-old marckel ross as he walked to school on september 11. authorities will also announce they have crested james ward in the death of geraldine mcintyre. bp's civil trial is under way following the gulf oil disaster nearly three years ago. at the heart of the case is "will fully." if a judge find-- "grossly." if the judge rules there were simply negligent, that means $4.5 billion in fines. critics don't want to see the company get off easy. the coast guard is looking for four missing voters off the coast of san francisco. two adults and two young children are missing more than 65 miles offshore.

there on a 29 foot sailboat that radioed in a distress call last night reporting there were taking on water and that their electronics were failing. several aircraft are looking for them. the coast guard says they're likely on a life raft. furniture giant ikea is stopping sales of its meat balls in sweden after a report that they contain horse meat. food inspectors found traces in batches of frozen meat balls. the product was available in 13 different european markets. ikea is recalling the batch out of a precaution, but the company says its own tests have not shown any traces. as the world gets ready for the historic change brought on by pope benedict's departure, there are even more changes when it comes to naming his replacement. he has agreed to modify a longstanding vatican law. now this report. >> a day after he appeared out his window for the final time

as we look at the almanac, we made it to 54 yesterday. i think we will be in close to average. it will feel more pleasant today because the wind is calm. we have two systems we will be watching for the week ahead. look at all the moisture across the gulf coast states. that will be coming and the house along with the parcel winter storm than ashas been bringing blizzard conditions in the panhandle of texas. they will get another foot of snow in kansas city. as this comes together, it will steer clear of us tonight. by tomorrow morning we will see moisture moving in. the earlier this moves then, the more likely we will get a little freezing rain with a little snow mixing in especially in west virginia and western maryland. the rain will be heavy at times. you see is moving up to the

north on wednesday. we will start drying out a little on wednesday. and then the backside will really gets us on thursday, cooling down. how much rain are we expecting? anywhere between a half-inch to an inch of rain tomorrow. but we really need it. mostly sunny today, pleasant conditions, 47 to 52. increasing clouds tonight, 30 to 35 degrees. a little mix possible tomorrow early with the onset of the storm. most of the rain is tomorrow afternoon in the metro and mostly just rain. i don't think it will be a big deal for the metro. a better chance of a cooldown on thursday with maybe a little chance of rain. look at next weekend. temperatures flip-floping heading into march. going back and forth a lot this

time of year. >> thank you. the world's oldest long-distance marathon runner, ran his last race on sunday in hong kong just ahead of his 102nd birthday. fauja singh is retiring after completing nine successful marathons'. his fans have named him but turban tornado. he spent 13 years as a competitive long-distance runner. he was the oldest person to complete a marathon at the age of 12011 in toronto on the waterfront. >> peace prize my age. >> his secret is not his diet or his training routine but simply his love for the sport, which he will continue to do just for pleasure now. coming up, and a big honor and for civil rights leader. how she is being memorialized for the work she did right here in washington.
